"Break Portrait" - Limited Edition 7/7
The first ever artscience84 NFT Collection attempts to break the social algorithm. Social Media has been pushing "portrait mode", the orientation of photo and video that causes subconscious anxiety by narrowing our field of vision. We hardly even notice but, once we're in that state, we NEED more content to soothe us. It's not surprising, now that we've been conditioned to disorient our lives, that we're bombarded with advertisements and other traps designed to take our money, time, and attention.
How many videos have you seen online, especially when you really want to know what's going on, and the camera is in tall mode? Your field of vision is literally narrowed. Subconsciously worrying about a potential threat from these angles causes anxiety. We already know that companies are not above toying with our mental health, especially if they can get away with it. You don't think this was by design?
This collection is meant to bust our perception out of the confines of this attack on our peace of mind. "Break Portrait" is about resisting the excuses of "it's just easier" or "it looks cool this way" and relaxing the primal subconscious by exposing our full field of vision, again. Would you go the movies and watch it in portrait mode? Would you watch the biggest game of the year with only one third of the action visible to you? Would you venture into a dangerous area without being able to see around corners? Exactly.
Depending on the success of this collection, I am considering donating proceeds to a mental health cause, or at least to the development of social media that refuses to push portrait and encourages our return to landscape and wide angles.
